Every person who starts out with something new, like yoga, will struggle in the beginning. I know I did. But what really helps is learning from other people’s experiences. Over the years, I’ve learned many yoga tips and I will give you the ones I found most important.

5 Yoga Tips For Beginners

When I first started out with yoga practice, I had no idea what I was doing and what exactly yoga was. I felt like a complete fool during my first yoga classes because I thought that I was doing everything wrong.

Mostly, I was afraid of weird looks at the gym and was embarrassed in front of other people. I thought that maybe my body wasn’t suitable for yoga because I thought I would never be able to do all those more advanced poses.

I was just jealous of other women at the gym because everything seemed so perfect for them. They were flexible, had fit bodies while I was struggling to lose weight and wasn’t comfortable to even squeeze myself into yoga pants.

The worst part was that I didn’t even know where to start with yoga. I knew some classes but they were way too advanced for me. But then I discovered many alternative ways perfect for beginners to learn yoga which I will share in this article!

The beginning was very difficult for me but I’ve become much better at yoga and I know many poses and techniques that I had no clue about before. I’ve also gathered a lot of yoga practice knowledge and yoga tips that I believe will be very useful and important for you if you’re a beginner in yoga!

But before we start… Could we just acknowledge the endless benefits of practicing yoga?!

Yoga helps reduce stress, relieve tension, keep an open mind, gain flexibility, increase strength, improve breathing, promote sleep quality, improve balance, relieve anxiety, burn calories, lose weight, and, of course, improve overall health and quality of life.

As you can see, the benefits of yoga are absolutely endless, so giving it a try is definitely a good idea!

Now lets move on to our 5 yoga tips for beginners…

5 yoga tips for beginners:

1.Start out simple

This is one of the most important tips for beginners. Your goal in yoga when you first start out may be to do all those super complex poses. But every person who ever achieved doing them started out with the basics!

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I started out with yoga was that I overestimated my abilities. I tried doing some of the most complicated poses because I thought the ones for beginners were too easy for me. But this just lead to failure and disappointment because I was far from ready to do them. The key in yoga is to really listen to your body and gradually move your way up to more difficult yoga poses.

Start out with some simple poses like the plank, downward dog, cow pose, cat pose or child’s pose. Trust me, these may seem very simple but they can definitely be challenging for some beginners!

Please consult with a doctor before starting yoga practice, though, especially if you have a medical condition.

2.Be patient

I know how hard it can be to wait for progress when you first start out with yoga. You just NEED to do that Destroyer Of The Universe Pose. Well, poses like this require a lot of flexibility and strength which you can gain through yoga practice!

So if you can’t do it today, you most definitely will be able to in the future! The most important thing is not to give up, listen to your body, mind, and keep on going with some patience and motivation! You will get there – just keep on practicing yoga.

3.Don’t be too hard on yourself

Yoga can be pretty difficult, especially for beginners. I experienced a lot of failures in my first yoga attempts. But I’m actually glad I did because only through some failure could I learn what I know today!

Everything takes personal practice. When some yoga technique doesn’t work out for you, don’t give up, just try something more simple and build your way up! Remember, even the most honorable yogis started out with the easy poses. [id=1]

4.Don’t compete with others

Every person is different! The speed in which you progress in yoga can vary based on your body, the amount of time you practice, and many many other factors.

I started doing yoga with my friend. In the beginning, she was much better than me and achieved much more than me. I got very disappointed because of that and almost gave up because I thought yoga just wasn’t for me.

Well, guess what? Now, I’m actually better than that friend of mine because SHE decided yoga wasn’t for her and I kept on going.

What I learned from this was that you should only focus on your own progress, not that of others!

So don’t look at how everyone else is doing, focus on your own personal practice instead. Your only competition is yourself.

5.Find the class right for you

There are so many different yoga classes out there. And it’s important to choose the one that’s right for YOU! And there are even a few options. You can look up some videos online and learn from them (this is the cheapest option but it takes a lot of time to learn this way).

You can also go to a class with other people. This is what most people do who want to do yoga. Although it may be fun because you really feel the yoga vibe and get to meet some new people. Plus, there are so many different yoga instructors to choose from! Each yoga teacher has different styles so keep on looking until you find the perfect one!

However, I completely understand you if you don’t feel very comfortable going to a yoga class…

In that case, probably one of the most convenient and best ways to learn yoga is an online program you can use from the comfort of your own home!
