Every person who starts out with something new, like yoga, will struggle in the beginning. I know I did. But what really helps is learning from other people’s experiences. Over the years, I’ve learned many yoga tips and I will give you the ones I found most important.
When I first started out with yoga, I had no idea what I was doing and what exactly yoga was. I felt like a complete fool during my first yoga classes because I thought that I was doing everything wrong.
Mostly, I was afraid of weird looks at the gym and was embarrassed in front of other people. I thought that maybe my body wasn’t suitable for yoga because I thought I would never be able to do all those more advanced poses.
I was just jealous of other women at the gym because everything seemed so perfect for them. They were flexible, had fit bodies while I was struggling to lose weight and wasn’t comfortable to even squeeze myself into yoga pants.
The worst part was that I didn’t even know where to start with yoga. I knew some classes but they were way too advanced for me. But then I discovered many alternative ways perfect for beginners to learn yoga which I will share in this article!
The beginning was very difficult for me but I’ve become much better at yoga and I know many poses and techniques that I had no clue about before. I’ve also gathered a lot of knowledge and yoga tips I believe will be very useful and important for you if you’re a beginner in yoga!
1.Start out simple
This is one of the most important yoga tips. Your goal in yoga when you first start out may be to do all those super complex poses. But every person who ever achieved doing them started out with the basics!
One of the biggest mistakes I made when I started out with yoga was that I overestimated my abilities. I tried doing some of the most complicated poses because I thought the ones for beginners were too easy for me. But this just lead to failure and disappointment because I was far from ready to do them.
Start out with some simple poses like the plank, bridge pose or boat pose. Trust me, these may seem very simple but they can definitely be challenging for some beginners!
I know how hard it can be to wait for progress when you first start out with yoga. You just NEED to do that Destroyer Of The Universe Pose. Well, poses like this require a lot of flexibility and strength which you can gain through practice!
So if you can’t do it today, you most definitely will be able to in the future! The most important thing is not to give up and keep on going with some patience and motivation!
3.Don’t be too hard on yourself
Yoga can be pretty difficult, especially for beginners. I experienced a lot of failures in my first yoga attempts. But I’m actually glad I did because only through some failure could I learn what I know today!
Everything takes practice. When some yoga technique doesn’t work out for you, just try something more simple and build your way up!
4.Don’t compete with others
Every person is different! The speed in which you progress in yoga can vary based on your body, the amount of time you practice, and many many other factors.
I started doing yoga with my friend. In the beginning, she was much better than me and achieved much more than me. I got very disappointed because of that and almost gave up because I thought yoga just wasn’t for me.
Well, guess what? Now, I’m actually better than that friend of mine because SHE decided yoga wasn’t for her and I kept on going.
What I learned from this was that you should only focus on your own progress, not that of others!
5.Find the class right for you
There are so many different yoga classes out there. And it’s important to choose the one that’s right for YOU! And there are even a few options. You can look up some videos online and learn from them (this is the cheapest option but it takes a lot of time to learn this way).
You can also go to a class with other people. This is what most people do who want to do yoga. Although it may be fun because you really feel the yoga vibe and get to meet some new people, I completely understand you if you don’t feel very comfortable going to a class.
Well, probably the most convenient way to learn yoga which is possible thanks to today’s technologies is an online program you can use from the comfort of your own home!
I love online programs, so I’ve tried out A LOT of them. If you’d like to try one out, I recommend Zoey Bray-Cotton’s “Yoga Burn” program. It’s super easy-to-understand and easy-to-follow which is why it’s perfect for you if you’re a beginner.
The program consists of 3 phases with different videos which will guide you every step of the way. You will be given many yoga tips, learn many new yoga poses and techniques and they will be explained thoroughly!
The “Yoga Burn” program is aimed specifically at women who are trying to lose weight. And I must say, when I was trying to lose weight, this program gave me a huge boost. Of course, if you want to lose weight, you also have to balance your nutrition. But you can reach the best results if you combine this yoga program with healthy eating!
Plus, after I started using this program, not only did I learn so much about yoga and different yoga tips but I completely fell in love with it! And I’m sure that if you start using this program, yoga will become a complete lifestyle change!
